Our Story
Founded in 1885 with just 14 members, First Baptist Church has over 140 years of rich history in Goldthwaite and Mills County. Through many seasons of growth and change, First Baptist has remained a staple of Goldthwaite, TX. The current worship and education facilities were constructed in 1949 after a fire destroyed the previous building, built just 3 years prior in 1946.
Numerous pastors and staff have led the church over the years, including current members and Pastor Emeritus Doug Holtzclaw and his wife, Juel Ann, as well as the former Minister of Education Butch Foster and his wife, Carolyn.
In 2024, First Baptist called David Crosby as Senior Pastor and John Free as Associate Pastor. Over the last two years, we have seen growth in both our attendance and giving, but most importantly, we are witnessing a resurgence in baptisms and confessions of faith in Jesus Christ.
Our vision is to continue to spread the Gospel in Goldthwaite and Mills County and to the ends of the earth.
